Missing my colleagues, so we set up a date in The Kennington – winner of the best newcomer in the 2013 Great British Pub Awards. This is on a busy road but does have some outside space – although it is a bit noisy. Inside there is plenty of attention paid to safety with distanced seating, clear screens and socially distanced staff. Only two households allowed together, which was fine as there were only two of us.But we went for the food, as well as the company. Their website says – “We have an unpretentious approach to producing delicious, traditional British dishes from freshly sourced produce. Alongside this, we offer a starters & sharers menu for snacks and light bites. It was Friday, so we both ordered Fish and Chips and tucked into them straight away – after the gossip and wine so missed their arrived perfection in the photo.
The Hake was soft, batter crispy and the chips were a step up from those at the local chippy. There was a plate of sauces, a dinky cup of smashed peas and tartar sauce. What more could you want. They were great.
The meal was a backdrop for some face to face social contact, but we enjoyed the visit, drank some very acceptable wine and went home for a snooze. I think the bill for the food was £26.00 as my colleague paid. Thank you Richard, I owe you another one.
