This is an outfit that mainly offers home delivery for their menu of hot food, but also, almost as a sideline, will deliver a box of fresh fruit and vegetables. They are open for hot food Thursday, Friday and Saturday. They describe themselves as offering “plant powered goodness” with “Indian fusion, international confusion” that emphasises fresh fruit and vegetables. The restaurant menu has many gluten free and vegan options, which we plan on trying soon when our larder runs out.
Like most fresh fruit and veg boxes you don’t know what you are getting, but we were totally happy with the one that arrived two days after ordering. It was left on the doorstep and the person delivering was standing well away from the door. He asked about our health (we are self-isolating) and gave us a run down of what was in the box.
We were delighted with contents – just goes to show how food can lift the spirits. A pineapple, blueberries, bananas, avocados and limes have extended our access to Vitamin C. The leeks, potatoes, carrots, sweet potato, squash, kale, peppers and, best of all, an aubergine, will allow us to cook some of those Jamie meals from the new early evening show.
We used some of the Kale to make Kale pesto (Olive oil, kale, pine nuts (sometimes left at the bottom of the cupboard but any nuts would be good), and plenty of garlic). We ate it with spaghetti and there’s enough left for a second meal.
At the very bottom of the box we found fresh turmeric and ginger to brighten up our chickpea and Bulgar wheat curry (which will also include more kale in the form of the chopped up stalks!). And the last of the kale (there was lots) is scheduled to end up as crispy kale.
We ate pineapple many ways – with pineapple Eton mess (yoghourt instead of cream and meringue made with “aquafaba” – the water from cooking the chickpeas) and roast pineapple with caramel sauce. All delicious and there’s still more.
A box costs £25.00. Thank you En Root for the cheerful delivery – we will be back and happy to recommend to anyone else in the Brixton area. Next stop is to try their menu.
